Christ In Canada 150 - The Constitution
Leading up to our celebration of Canada Day 2017, we have looked at several examples of our Christian national heritage and the founding of our Country. In this final post in our “ Christ In Canada 150 ” series, we will consider our Constitution. The “Dominion of Canada” was originally created in 1867 by an act of the British Parliament, and the Queen’s Assent, as a union of the Province of Canada (Ontario / Quebec), New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. This is known as the British North American Act, or BNA. It was not until 1982, under Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, that the Constitution was patriated; i.e. transferred under the authority of the Canadian Parliament.
